PADEX INJECTION 80MG/2ML

Gentamycin Injection 2ml/80mg

  • FORMULATION

    Each mL contains:
    Gentamicin sulfate equivalent to Gentamicin: 40mg
    Excipients : Q.S.
    Colour : Erythrosine

  • INDICATIONS

    For the treatment of severe systemic infections caused by susceptible strains of Gram-negative and other organisms such as P. aeruginosa, Proteus species (indole negative and indole positive), E. coli, K. pneumoniae, E. aerogenes, S. Mareeseen, Staphylococcus species (including penicillin and methicillin-resistant strains).

  • DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION

    Children 1 year and above:
    3-6mg/kg/day up to 2 single doses

    Infants and neonates:
    4.5 - 7.5mg/kg/day up to 2 single doses

    Adult:
    3-5mg/kg/day in divided doses of 6 to 8 hours interval.

  • CONTRAINDICATIONS

    Hypersensitivity to Gentamicin is a contraindication to its use. A history of hypersensitivity or serious toxic reactions to other aminoglycosides may contraindicate use of Gentamicin because of the known cross sensitivity of patients to drugs in this class.

  • ADVERSE EFFECTS

    Nephrotoxicity:
    Adverse renal effects, as demonstrated by the presence of casts, cells or protein in the urine or by rising BUN, NPN serum, creatinine oroliguria have been reported. They occur more frequently in patients with a history of renal impairment and in patients treated for longer periods or with larger dosages than recommended

    Neurotoxicity:
    Serious adverse effects on both vestibular and auditory branches of the eight < 8 hours.

  • DRUG INTERACTIONS

    No major drug interaction of this product has been discovered so far and generally it is well tolerated drug.

  • OVERDOSE

    In the event of over dosage or toxic reactions haemodialysis may aid in the removal of Gentamicin from the blood, especially if renal function is or becomes compromised. The rate of removal of Gentamicin is considerably lower by peritoneal dialysis than it is by haemodialysis.

    In the newborn infant, exchange transfusions may also be considered.

  • WARNINGS

    Gentamicin Injection contains sodium metabisulfite which may cause allergic type reactions including anaphylactic symptoms and life threatening or less severe asthmatic episodes in certain susceptible persons.

  • CAUTION

    Foods, Drugs, Devices and Cosmetics Act prohibits dispensing without prescription.

  • STORAGE

    Store at temperatures not exceeding 30°C.
