Ampicillin / Cloxacillin BP 500mg Injection

  • COMPOSITION

    Each 500mg vial contains:
    Ampicillin Sodium equivalent Ampicillin BP 250mg
    Cloxacillin Sodium equivalent Cloxacillin BP 250mg

    Xacin combines the activities of ampicillin as broad spectrum antibiotic and cloxacillin as penicillinase-stable antibiotic in a ratio of one to one. Which are two well established semisynthetic penicillins developed from penicillin nucleus (6-Aminopenicillanic acid).

    It is a broad spectrum antibiotic which has a wide range of bacterici-dalactivity against gram-positive cocciand gram-negative bacilli. It exerts synergistic effect because the ampicillin in it is not inactivated as a result of the action that the cloxacillin inhibits penicillinase produced from penicillinese-pruducing organism.

    It is indicated for the treatment of the disease caused by resistant strains to penicillin G and other antibiotics. Those organisms sensitive to it include: Streptococci, Pneumococci, Enterococci, Clostridium tetanus, H. Influenza, Proteus mirabilis, Salmonella and Shigella spp. Neisseria eningitidis and Neisseria gonorrboeae, etc.

    It is highly effective against severe mixed infections and emergency cases necessary for the first aid treatment, before the identity of the causal organisms or its antibiotic sensitivity has been established.

  • RECOMMENDATION

    1. Broad spectrum antibacterial activity: It exerts a potent bactericidal activity against. Gram-positive and Gram-negative pathogens.
    2. Effective against penicillinase-producing staphylococci: Cloxacillin in it inhibits penicillinase activity, therefore it is highly effective against penicillin or ampicillin resistant Staphylococcus.
    3. It is a drug of choice for the treatment of following cases: Severe mixed infections and emergency cases necessary for the first aid treatment before the identity of the causal organisms or its antibiotic sensitivity has been established. Venereal disease without regard to sensitivity test.
    4. Virtually non-toxic, dosage may safely be increased without fear of toxicity or side effects.

  • INDICATION

    1. Mixed infections caused by the unidentified causative organisms. (suppurative disease of the lung. bronchiectasis, secondary tuberculosis).
    2. Severe infections. (Septicemia bacterial pneumonia)
    3. Mixed urinary infections. (cystitis, pyelonephritis, bacteruria)
    4. Infections in premature babies, neonates, infants.(bronchitis, purulent lymphatitis, septicemia, abscess, purulent meningitis, severe pyoderma including exfoliative dermatitis)
    5. Neonates following a difficult delivery (Amniotic fluid infection early rupture of the fetal membrane). When subsequent infection is a possible hazard.
    6. Neonates with dyspnea due to hyaline membrane syndrome atelectasis of the lung etc.
    7. Neonates infections: by respiratory distress due to congenital disease intracranial hematoma.

  • DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION

    Adults:
    The recommended daily dose is 1.53Gm activity should be divided into 3-4 equal doses and administered by oral and parenteral (intramuscular intravenous) routes.

    Children:
    The recommended daily dose is 50-100mg activity per kilogram of body weight should be divided into 3-4 equal doses and administered by oral and parenteral (intramuscular intravenous) routes.

    Neonates: Premature baby infants.
    The recommended daily dose is 100 mg activity per kilogram of body weight should be administered 6-8 hourly by oral and parenteral (intramuscular intravenous) routes.

  • PRECAUTION

    1. Although the incidence of serious side reactions is very low gastrointestinal disturbances such as nausea. Vomiting diarrhoea and headache paralytic feeling of the extremities myalgia arthralgia malaise unpleasant taste in the mouth asthma urge to evacuate the rectum tinnitus may seldom occur.
    2. Occasionally allergic symptoms such as bronchial asthma skin and mucous membrane eruption urticaria have been encountered.
    3. Since anaphylactic shock may occur in idiosyncracy. The patients with a history of sensitivity to penicillin should give attention to the treatment with this drug.
